At UM Health-Sparrow, the needs of our Patients always come first.  Our mission is to improve the health of the people in our communities by providing quality, compassionate care to everyone, every time.

With healthcare reform, increasing copays and deductibles, insurance plans encouraging low cost options, and increased focus on healthcare costs, consumers want more information on healthcare prices. We are committed to supporting healthcare price transparency by providing you with information you need to understand the costs of care and make informed decisions.

Hospital prices are established based on several factors. First, the direct cost of staff, supplies, drug(s), and/or the equipment for that particular service or item. Second, a markup is added to each price to account for the administrative expenses involved in operating a large hospital. These include expenses for technology, registration and billing, regulatory compliance, building and facility expenses, housekeeping, food and nutrition, and many others.

CPT/HCPC Code - Health care procedure codes based on the American Medical Association's Current Procedural Terminology

NDC - National Drug Code

Revenue Code - Descriptions charged for hospital services provided to a patient

A description of each item or service

Gross Charge/Unit - The charge for an individual item or service that is reflected on a hospital’s chargemaster, absent any discounts

Discounted Cash Price - The charge that applies to an individual who pays cash, or cash equivalent, for a hospital item or service

Minimum Negotiated Charge - The lowest charge that a hospital has negotiated with all third-party payers for an item or service

Maximum Negotiated Charge - The highest charge that a hospital has negotiated with all third-party payers for an item or service

Payer-specific Negotiated Charge - The charge that a hospital has negotiated with a third-party payer for an item or service (please note that the final payment from the payer may be different than those displayed in the file)

These prices are for UM Health-Sparrow Lansing only and do not include physician’s fees from a surgeon, pathologist, anesthesiologist or radiologist.
