Where to seek medical attention for flu:

With a higher than normal volume of flu cases, Sparrow is urging anyone with symptoms to first contact their primary physician or to visit a Sparrow urgent care facility . Emergency rooms fill up, causing longer wait times and potentially exposing a greater number of people to the flu.

Common flu symptoms include:

  • Fever of 100 or higher or feeling feverish
  • A cough and/or sore throat
  • A runny or stuffy nose
  • Headaches and/or body aches
  • Chills
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea (more common in children)

When to seek medical attention:

  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Purple or blue discoloration of the lips
  • Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
  • Sudden dizziness
  • Confusion
  • Severe or persistent vomiting
  • Seizures
  • Flu-like symptoms that improve but then return with fever and worse cough
