LANSING, Mich. – A major national study is shining a spotlight on the exceptional work happening every day at University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Carson. The hospital has been named a top performer in the 2025 Vizient Quality and Accountability Study. The accolade places our Carson team among the nation's elite for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
The annual Vizient study measures performance across six key areas: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient-centeredness and equity.
University of Michigan Health C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital also was recognized as a top performer for the Vizient Sustainability Excellence Award. That award recognizes health care organizations demonstrating outstanding commitment to sustainability, based on program maturity and environmentally preferred purchasing.

The study analyzed data from 1,220 participating hospitals, with UM Health-Sparrow Carson ranking as a top performer in the small community hospital cohort. The analysis factors in performance data from the Vizient Clinical Data Base, patient satisfaction (HCAHPS) surveys, and CDC safety metrics from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.
