UM Health-Sparrow Carson Recognizes DAISY Nurses

Carson City, Mich. – University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Carson celebrated National Nurses Week by honoring several of its highly skilled nurses with DAISY Awards.

The UM Health-Sparrow Carson Infusion Center was presented with the DAISY Team Award for their professionalism, respect and compassion and always going above and beyond expectations. Team DAISY Awards are designed to honor collaboration of a group, led by a nurse, who meet patients and family needs beyond the traditional role of nursing.

“Their ability to ease fears and anxiety at stressful times through education and positive thinking, hope and a gentle hand is amazing,” said chief nursing officer Mariah Hesse, BSN, R.N., CENP.

University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Carson leader Kimberly Tissue, R.N., poses with her DAISY Nurse Leadership Award.

Steve Whitney was posthumously recognized with the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award. Steve dedicated his life to caring for patients and was a valued team member at UM Health-Sparrow Carson from 2007-2024.

“The words and testimonials I have read and heard validate the remarkable man and nurse he was to so many. His commitment and dedication to nursing will continue through others,” said Hesse.

Kimberly Tissue, R.N., was also awarded the DAISY Nurse Leader Award for her willingness to step in and help team members at any given time in any situation. The DAISY Nurse Leader Award was created to help shine light on those not in direct patient care, who utilize their skills to create an environment of compassion, safety and quality.

“Tissue demonstrates excellence and respect for her team and is willing to support all areas of the hospital. She is a brilliant and talented Nurse Leader dedicated to excellence,” said Hesse.
