CARSON CITY, MI – University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Carson has announced Lynnette Kane, RN, as its 2024 Nurse of the Year.

Kane, a surgical services nurse for nearly 20 years and medical surgical nurse for 10 years, was nominated for the compassion she provides patients, her willingness to do whatever she can to make them comfortable and her ability to help to relieve their anxiety.

“I’ve had the privilege to work with Kane for twenty years; She is an excellent nurse, team member, mentor and patient advocate,” said Jill Bartolo, RN, surgical services manager.

During  a ceremony Wednesday, Mariah Hesse, BSN, RN, CENP, chief nursing officer, UM Health-Sparrow Carson and Clinton, said, “Kane’s smile and calming affect impacts patients and families in a positive way. As a nurse her genuine concern and compassion for rothers shines brightly”.

When asked what made her become a nurse, Kane said, “I’ve known since I was five that I wanted to be a nurse. My mom would always read me Nancy Plays Nurse and I knew then I wanted to care for people.”

“After being at UM Health-Sparrow Carson for nearly 30 years, I’ve seen many changes, however, the constant here has always been the great people. I’m honored to be part of such an amazing team. Our team members in the front lobby and in the laboratory do such a wonderful job, it makes my job easier, because by the time patients get to surgical services, they’ve already had such a positive experience. My goal is always to help patients relax, feel educated about their care and help them have the best possible outcome,” said Kane.
