Sparrow has been vigilant in aggressively training Caregivers with the highest potential for contact with possible Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) Patients, including drills involving mock Patients.
The preparations give us considerable confidence that we are prepared to respond to any suspected EVD cases while protecting the health and safety of our Patients and Caregivers in the process. The safety of Sparrow Patients and Caregivers is our most important priority.
Drills are being conducted to test our plans, preparations, training, and supplies should a Patient suspected of EVD be identified.
In addition, mock Patients with EVD symptoms have arrived unannounced at different locations throughout Sparrow Health System so Caregivers can work through various possible EVD scenarios.
Our health and safety leaders have been working for months and continue to refine our readiness plan related to EVD.
A Sparrow task force is following recommendations set forth by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and is in contact with representatives from the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) to ensure proper preparations, training, and procedures are in place. State officials maintain the threat of EVD to Michigan residents remains low.
