Sparrow Cancer Center earns national oncology certification

Published: Nov. 8, 2013

The Sparrow Cancer Center, through the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI), has earned a three-year certification for its commitment to delivering the highest quality of cancer care.

QOPI Certification is a national designation given through the American Society of Clinical Oncology, (ASCO), the world’s leading professional organization representing physicians who care for people with cancer.

“Sparrow was one of the first oncology practices in the nation to earn the inaugural certification in 2010, and I am proud that we continue to meet the rigorous standards necessary to renew our certification for another three years,” said Gordan Srkalovic, M.D., PhD, FACP, Clinical Trials Director of the Sparrow Cancer Center.

“We are committed to providing exceptional Patient care, and by holding ourselves accountable to best practices from around the country, we can ensure we are offering our Patients the best care right here in mid-Michigan.”

To receive QOPI Certification, a practice must undergo a thorough on-site review, including how policies are translated into practice, evaluation of working knowledge of safety standards, and proof of ongoing engagement with staff on safety and quality.

Dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and support of Patients with cancer all under one roof, the Sparrow Cancer Center offers the latest in surgical, medical and radiation oncology with access to clinical trials unique to the area.
