Physical Therapist at UM Health-Sparrow Ionia, named June Team Member Spotlight
Mackenzie Thomas, a Physical Therapist at UM Health-Sparrow Ionia Rehabilitation Center, has been named the June Team Member Spotlight honoree.
Thomas is always eager to help at a moment’s notice, including coming in on her days off to cover for other therapists. Thomas regularly asks her colleagues if they need assistance with anything and brings an energetic, positive presence to the clinic each day.
“I just want to be a bright spot in people’s lives,” Thomas said.
Patients have taken notice as well. Many specifically request Thomas for their sessions, saying her upbeat personality makes difficult rehabilitation work feel more manageable. They describe her as someone who brings a smile to their faces and never lets negativity creep into a treatment room.
Thomas said her passion for physical therapy goes beyond the clinical exercises.
“Helping people is my passion,” she said. “I love helping patients regain their confidence.”
She said watching someone move from frustration to accomplishment is what keeps her motivated.
“If you can be one person’s cheerleader, you can make them happier,” Thomas said.
Thomas works primarily at the Ionia Rehabilitation Center, where she treats patients recovering from injuries, surgeries and mobility-limiting conditions.
The Team Member Spotlight recognizes team members who exemplify the health system’s core values of compassion, dedication and professionalism in service to patients and colleagues.
