January 2026 Sparrow Spotlight - Rodrick Cook

January 2026

Rodrick Cook’s dedication elevates the Transport Services team at UM Health-Sparrow Lansing.

Rodrick “Rod” Cook of Transport Services is the January Sparrow Spotlight honoree for his exceptional service at the University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Lansing. His co-workers nominated him for consistently exceeding his core responsibilities to support both patients and colleagues, noting the department “knows it’s going to be a good day” when he arrives. Colleagues describe him as an upbeat presence who greets everyone by name. He vigilantly ensures safety by monitoring situations and stepping in to assist with patient care beyond his assigned duties. Cook approaches his work with a simple, powerful philosophy of compassion.

“I just want to treat every person with the respect and dignity they deserve,” Cook said.

Cook began his health system career in housekeeping before mastering transport and linen operations. He has excelled in every role, becoming a skilled trainer and a collaborative team player respected across all departments. His eagerness to learn and positive attitude have made him a huge asset. Working part-time, Cook retired after more than 25 years with the Michigan Education Association’s maintenance department. He sees his role at Sparrow as a purposeful second chapter.

“This is my way to give back to the community and bring a little joy and a smile to the workplace,” he said.
