Sparrow Caregiver Jay Gordon Green’s calm demeanor and affable personality have earned the Delta Township paramedic recognition as a standout individual responder by Sparrow’s Emergency Department.

Green, 33, recently received the EMS Appreciation Award for his work as a full-time paramedic with the Delta Township Fire Department. Green also works in the Emergency Department at Sparrow Hospital’s St. Lawrence campus.

The Lansing Township Fire Department also received an EMS Appreciation Award for its exceptional service. The EMS awards have been presented annually since 2013. Emergency Department Caregivers nominate and vote for the top individual and agency providers.

Green has been a paramedic for 10 years, including nearly four with Delta Township. He joined Sparrow a year ago.

“It’s the best job I’ve ever had,” Green said of his paramedic duties.

Green was a natural choice for the honor, said John Dery, D.O., Associate Medical Director for Emergency Services at Sparrow.

“He’s very quiet and unassuming when on the job, but he knows when to be jovial and calming in a crisis situation,” Dr. Dery said.

The EMS Appreciation Awards reflect Sparrow’s dedication to providing the best emergency Patient care in mid-Michigan. The agencies and individuals selected “(provide) the high level of commitment to quality care that we would want for our friends and family,” Dr. Dery said.
