Carson and Ionia Receive Top National Grades from Patients

Published: September 18, 2023

Sparrow Carson and Ionia hospitals have received a five-star rating for the experience they provide patients.

Becker's Hospital Review, a medical industry trade magazine that reports on, as well as conducts, its own research on healthcare, gave the Community Hospitals the top rating based on survey questions to patients. The survey covered areas such as nurse and physician communication, care transitions, and cleanliness.

“We are honored to be nationally recognized through the voice of our patients,” said Mark Brisboe, Sparrow Carson Hospital President. “This five-star patient experience rating reflects the pride, outstanding quality of care, and compassion Sparrow Carson caregivers provide to every patient entering our hospital.”

“Sparrow Ionia is grateful to receive this award in support of our caregivers’ dedication and commitment to quality care,” said Sparrow Ionia Hospital President Linda Reetz, MBA, BSN, RN, NE-BC. “Every aspect of the hospital experience affects the patient, from the moment they walk through the doors to the time that they leave. Our caregivers recognize that teamwork and continuous efforts are important to providing the best care to every patient, every time.”

To build its assessment, Becker’s used data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). CMS shares 10 ratings based on publicly reported measures,  based on survey data collected from hospital patients from October 2021 through September 2022.
