Joye Cuthrell, BSN, RN, a care facilitator for Sparrow Medical Group Internal Medicine Residency, recently went above and beyond to help a 93-year-old woman living in difficult circumstances and without a support system. “This patient seemed unhappy and I believed it was because she was not in a safe environment,” Joye said.
Exhibiting her compassionate care, Joye toured a facility and found her a place she could move to the following week. But Joye’s help didn’t end there. She later met the woman after hours and took her shopping so she could buy furniture for the place she now calls home. The woman is living happily, making new friends, and often contacts Joye to thank her for everything she’s done for her.
“I don’t feel that I necessarily went above and beyond,” says Joye. “If others had the opportunity, I believe they would have done the same.” Joye’s diligence and compassion are among the reasons she is this month’s Sparrow Caregiver Spotlight honoree.
