Cancer Center, American Cancer Society offer skin screenings

Published: April 20, 2016

With the weather finally heating up, it’s time to think about protecting your skin.

As part of Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month, the Sparrow Cancer Center and the American Cancer Society will again partner to conduct free skin cancer screening on Tuesday, May 10.

The screenings will be from 5-7 p.m. at the Sparrow Cancer Center, 1215 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing.

Free parking is available on the upper lot of the parking ramp at the corner of Holmes Street and Michigan Avenue. Appointments are required and slots fill up quickly. To schedule an appointment, call 1.800.SPARROW (772.7769).

More than 3.5 million cases of skin cancer, the most common of all cancers, will be diagnosed this year in the United States, according to the American Cancer Society. Malignant melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer, claims one life every hour.

“Skin cancer screening is a very easy process and absolutely can save your life,” said Gordan Srkalovic, M.D., Director of the Clinical Trials Center at the Sparrow Cancer Center. “As part of our mission to improve the health of the mid-Michigan region, we also encourage routine self-examinations.”
