University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Lansing Pharmacy Residency PGY1 Program
Welcome to the UM Health-Sparrow Lansing Pharmacy Residency webpage! In April 2023, we proudly became a part of University of Michigan Health. Our 12-month, American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) Program offers a wide array of opportunities to learn and contribute to patient-centered care. As key members of the UM Health-Sparrow healthcare team, Pharmacy Residents collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and patients to optimize medication therapy. In addition to rounding with a variety of physician services, residents provide education to both team members and patients.
Residents will:
- Complete required and elective pharmacy experiences
- Develop and present an ACPE-accredited continuing education program
- Conduct a medication use evaluation and present a summary and action plan to the P&T Committee
- Complete drug monographs and present recommendations to the P&T Committee
- Complete a residency project and present at the Great Lakes Pharmacy Resident Conference
- Prepare a research project manuscript for publication
- Author and edit the pharmacy newsletter
- Participate in collaborative practice committees
- Attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting
- Prepare a poster abstract for the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting
- Assist with precepting Pharm.D. and medical students
- Staff every third weekend (day shift)
- Complete all rotation specific assignments which may include but are not limited to journal club(s), case presentation(s), policy review, etc.
- Participate in Pharmacy Education and Development Lecture Series (PEDALS) program in association with Ferris State University (optional)

Eligibility and Application Process
To be eligible for UM Health-Sparrow’s Pharmacy PGY1 Residency, applicants must:
- Participate in the ASHP Residency Match Program
- Possess a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an ACPE-accredited school
- Be a licensed pharmacist or eligible for pharmacist licensure in Michigan by the start of the residency (licensure is required within 60 days of the entering the program)
- Attend an interview
