New surgeons join Sparrow Orthopedics and Plastic Surgery

LANSING, MICH. – University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Orthopedics and UM Health-Sparrow Lansing Plastic Surgery are excited to announce the addition of two distinguished hand surgeons, Ian Ridge, M.D., orthopedic surgeon, and Matthew Shaheen, M.D., plastic surgeon, to the team. Both doctors are currently accepting new patients.

Ridge joins UM Health-Sparrow Jolly Road Orthopedics, 3394 Jolly Road, Suite A, offering comprehensive care for hand and upper extremity orthopedic issues, including the treatment of fractures, tendon and ligament injuries, carpal tunnel, cubital tunnel, and other conditions from the hand to the shoulder. Ridge is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a candidate member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.

He completed his fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin and his residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center. Ridge earned his medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and has been practicing since 2018.

Shaheen joins both UM Health-Sparrow Lansing Plastic Surgery, 1200 E. Michigan Ave., Suite 655, Lansing, and UM Health-Sparrow Jolly Road Orthopedics, bringing expertise in plastic surgical care with a particular focus in microsurgical reconstruction and hand surgery. He performs reconstruction of defects of the head, neck, face, breast, torso and extremities, treating patients for injuries related to trauma, cancer care, congenital abnormalities, and other complex wounds. Shaheen also offers cosmetic procedures of the face, breast, body and extremities on request. Additionally, he performs routine surgeries for the hand, wrist and forearm including lacerations, fractures, ligament/tendon injuries, trigger finger, carpal tunnel and other peripheral nerve injuries, as well as more specialized care for arthritis, Dupuytren’s disease, wrist arthroscopy, tumor removal, and reconstruction.

Shaheen is a candidate member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and the American Association for Hand Surgery. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is board eligible with the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He completed his fellowship in hand and microsurgery at the University of Louisville Christine M. Kleinert Institute and his plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at Corewell Health East Beaumont University. Shaheen received his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine and has been in practice since 2015.
